Sull’autorità del Mugnos è questa una nobile famiglia di Parma portata in Sicilia da Giovanni A., che militò sotto il re Alfonso il magnanimo, fermandosi in Messina ove fiorirono varii gentiluomini, tra’ quali un Luigi che fu valoroso capitano in Francia al servizio del re Luigi XI. Altro ramo. Originaria di S. Remo, nel 1528 fu ascritta in famiglia Spinola nella persona di un Tommaso Anselmi, donde la nobile discendenza di questo casato. Battista, medico e scrittore di chiara fama, vivea nel 1636. Altro ramo. Originaria di Parma, si trapiantarono in Messina sotto il re Alfonso il Magnanimo. Altra famiglia ebbe per motto della famiglia: Ivvt utroque. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l’avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l’origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi..
